Big polluters Chemtrade Logistics, Chemtrade Refinery Services, and Marsulex are shelling out at least $12 million to clean up their act! The U.S. EPA and Justice Department announce a landmark deal aimed at eliminating over 3,000 tons of harmful emissions annually from six plants across the US.
This massive cleanup comes after a $700,000 fine under the Clean Air Act for violating emission standards. The settlement’s goal? To breathe easier for millions!
Granta Y. Nakayama, assistant administrator for EPA’s Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, calls it a victory for air quality. Michael Guzman of the Justice Department’s Environmental Division adds that cooperation with state agencies and tribes led to this significant environmental win.
The companies’ upgrades will target pollution control equipment at facilities in Louisiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming. A total of 20 plants have been secured under this Clean Air Act initiative, with expected annual SO2 cuts reaching 35,000 tons.
