A Green Forest man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting and abusing an 8-year-old girl, producing child pornography in the process.
The Honorable Timothy L. Brooks presided over the sentencing hearings, which was held in the U.S. District Court in Fayetteville. Terencio ‘Junior’ Perez-Cancino, 33, was found guilty of two counts of sexually exploiting a minor via the production of child pornography.
According to court documents, in February 2023, agents and task force officers with Homeland Security Investigations received information that Perez-Cancino had uploaded images to Snap Chat servers showing him sexually abusing an approximately eight-year-old female. Officers and agents served a search warrant at Perez-Cancino’s home, and in a post-Miranda interview, he admitted he had created the images depicting his abuse of the minor female approximately two years prior.
The minor subsequently disclosed in a forensic interview that Perez-Cancino had sexually abused her over an approximately four-year period. This heinous crime has left the community reeling and sparked calls for tougher laws to protect children from predators like Perez-Cancino.
U.S. Attorney Clay Fowlkes of the Western District of Arkansas made the announcement, praising the efforts of the Homeland Security Investigations, the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, the Eureka Springs Police Department, and the Green Forest Police Department for their tireless work in bringing Perez-Cancino to justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Devon Still prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States, securing a guilty verdict and a lengthy prison sentence for Perez-Cancino. This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
Perez-Cancino will now spend the next 30 years behind bars, serving his sentence without the possibility of parole. The community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that this monster will no longer be able to harm innocent children. But the question remains: how many more Perez-Cancinos are out there, preying on the vulnerable and exploiting the innocent?
