Texas Man Gets 5 Years for Threatening Family

Crime Report: Threats

A Texas man has been sentenced to five years in prison for making interstate threats to a local family in 2011, announced U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente today.

Isaac Medrano, 46, a resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, plead guilty on December 19, 2012, to transmitting death threats by telephone. The threats were made after a relationship failed, with Medrano phoning in threats to kill members of the local family.

U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan sentenced Medrano to the statutory maximum, citing in part his prior criminal convictions involving similar conduct. In addition to the five year sentence, Berrigan also sentenced Medrano to three years of supervised release following imprisonment.

The case was investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tony Gordon Sanders.

Medrano’s sentence serves as a reminder of the severity of such threats, and the consequences that come with them. The case highlights the importance of taking such threats seriously, and the need for law enforcement to intervene in such situations.

The facts of the case are disturbing, and demonstrate the lengths to which some individuals will go to exact revenge on others. Medrano’s actions were not only terrifying for the family involved, but also show a blatant disregard for the law and for human life.

As this case comes to a close, it’s clear that justice has been served. Medrano will have to face the consequences of his actions, and will spend the next five years behind bars. The family he threatened can finally begin the process of healing and moving on from this traumatic experience.
