Theresa Jurae-Lekole Woodson, 31, of Charleston, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine. This sentence is a direct result of her involvement in the distribution of illicit drugs in Charleston.
According to United States Attorney Mike Stuart, Woodson pleaded guilty in December 2018, admitting to intending to distribute heroin, cocaine, and crack in March 2018. Stuart commended the efforts of the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) in bringing Woodson to justice.
Woodson’s crimes were uncovered when MDENT detectives used an informant to purchase cocaine and heroin from her in late February and early March 2018. On March 12, 2018, MDENT executed a search warrant at her Woodward Drive residence in Charleston, where they recovered 17 grams of crack, 27 grams of heroin, and a small amount of cocaine powder, along with a firearm.
United States Attorney Mike Stuart stated, “Distribution of heroin and cocaine. Selling it for money. Tragic,” highlighting the severity of Woodson’s crimes. He also praised the work of MDENT, saying, “Woodson was peddling multiple illicit drugs in Charleston. As a result of MDENT’s good work, she will now spend some time in federal prison for her criminal activity.”
The sentence was imposed by Senior United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua C. Hanks handled the prosecution. The case is a testament to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in West Virginia.
The sentencing of Theresa Jurae-Lekole Woodson serves as a warning to those involved in the distribution of illicit drugs in Charleston. The cooperation between law enforcement agencies, such as MDENT, and the United States Attorney’s office is crucial in bringing perpetrators to justice and making communities safer.
