Trevoir Jackson Charged with Stolen Firearm Possession

A 36-year-old New Orleans man is facing federal charges after being caught with a stolen .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun. Trevoir Jackson was indicted on February 9, 2017, on two counts: being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, according to U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite.

The charges, filed under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1) and § 922(j), stem from Jackson’s alleged possession of a firearm previously reported stolen. Federal authorities say the weapon was recovered during an investigation that involved cross-jurisdictional law enforcement coordination.

If convicted, Jackson faces a maximum of ten years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment. The penalties underscore the seriousness with which federal prosecutors treat illegal firearm possession, especially involving stolen weapons.

U.S. Attorney Polite emphasized that an indictment is not a conviction—Jackson is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Still, the charges mark another strike in a city where illegal guns continue to fuel violent crime.

The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Their joint effort highlights the ongoing push to track and remove stolen firearms from circulation in high-risk areas.

Prosecution is being handled by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Ryan McLaren and Assistant U.S. Attorney Nolan D. Paige. The case remains active as it moves through the federal court system.
