Trevor Bickford Sentenced to 27 Years for Times Square Machete Attack

New York City’s streets are safer today as Trevor Bickford received a 27-year sentence for his heinous attack on NYPD officers in Times Square last New Year’s Eve.

Bickford, fueled by radical Islamic extremism, swung a machete at three officers, critically wounding all. His intent was clear: to wage jihad and kill. The Justice Department, led by U.S. Attorney Damian Williams and Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, has delivered swift justice.

Williams spoke of the bravery of the NYPD officers who fought back against Bickford’s assault, ensuring that the attack did not escalate into a bloodbath. ‘Cowardly acts of terrorism will be met with law enforcement’s unwavering resolve,’ Williams emphasized.

Garland highlighted the department’s gratitude to the NYPD for their swift actions and bravery. ‘The Justice Department will always stand by its state and local law enforcement partners in counteracting the threat of terrorism,’ he said.

FBI Director Christopher A. Wray echoed sentiments of justice served. ‘Bickford’s attack on New York City police officers was a premeditated act of terrorism, and he is now being held accountable for his actions.’

According to court documents, Bickford traveled from Maine to Times Square with the intent to carry out the attack. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force remains committed to ensuring the safety of New York City.
