Uniontown’s Terrance Lewis Gets 18 Months for Heroin Scheme

Uniontown resident Terrance Lewis, 44, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 18 months for his role in a years-long heroin distribution scheme that poisoned communities across Fayette County. U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady announced the sentence today, marking the end of a federal case built on years of investigative work by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Lewis was convicted of conspiring to distribute and possess heroin with intent to distribute, a charge stemming from criminal activity that stretched from January 2010 to June 2015. The operation, which trafficked deadly doses across southwestern Pennsylvania, was dismantled through a coordinated federal crackdown led by the FBI and supported by the DEA, Fayette County Drug Task Force, Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, State Police, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone handed down the 18-month sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, underscoring the seriousness of the offense. Prosecutors Heidi M. Grogan and Troy Rivetti, who represented the government, argued that Lewis played a key role in a network that fed addiction and fueled violence in the region during the peak of the opioid crisis.

The investigation was funded under the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF), a nationwide initiative targeting major drug trafficking organizations. The program enables deep collaboration between federal and state agencies, pooling resources to dismantle networks that operate across jurisdictional lines.

According to court filings, Lewis admitted to participating in the conspiracy with multiple co-defendants, coordinating deliveries and managing supply chains for heroin that flowed into Pennsylvania from out-of-state sources. The drug’s potency during that period led to a spike in overdoses, making cases like this a top priority for federal prosecutors.

U.S. Attorney Brady praised the multi-agency effort, calling the conviction a significant blow to the drug trade in western Pennsylvania. “This sentence sends a clear message: those who profit from addiction will face serious consequences,” Brady stated. Lewis is expected to report to prison within 60 days.
