VALDOSTA, GA – Wesley White, 38, known on the streets as “Westside,” is facing a potential life sentence after being indicted by a federal grand jury on August 14, 2013, on serious drug trafficking charges. The indictment, unsealed today, alleges White possessed with intent to distribute crack cocaine, cocaine, and marijuana in the Middle District of Georgia.
United States Attorney Michael J. Moore announced the charges, stemming from a joint investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies. If convicted on the most severe charge – Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine – White could spend the rest of his life behind bars, alongside a potential fine of a staggering $8,000,000. The indictment further accuses White of possessing with intent to distribute cocaine, carrying a potential thirty-year prison sentence and a $2,000,000 fine. Finally, he is charged with marijuana distribution, which could add another ten years to his sentence and a $500,000 fine.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Southwest Georgia Gang Task Force spearheaded the investigation, bringing together resources from the FBI, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Valdosta Police Department, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office, Moultrie Police Department, and Thomasville Police Department. The collaborative effort highlights the seriousness with which federal authorities are tackling drug distribution networks operating in South Georgia.
Despite the severe allegations, White is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
