Vaughn Tiedeman Admits to Hoarding 600+ Child Abuse Images

West Milford, New Jersey, resident Vaughn Tiedeman, 48, admitted today to receiving and possessing more than 600 images of child sexual abuse, including depictions of young children and violent acts. The guilty plea, entered in Newark federal court, marks a grim chapter in a years-long digital trail of exploitation.

Tiedeman pleaded guilty to two federal counts: receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton presided over the hearing. Between July 2018 and April 2019, Tiedeman systematically downloaded and retained the illicit material, law enforcement confirmed through forensic investigation.

The charge of receipt of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum of five years in prison, a maximum of 20 years, and a $250,000 fine. Possession of child pornography, the second count, holds a maximum penalty of 20 years behind bars and a $250,000 fine. No plea deal details were disclosed, and Tiedeman now awaits sentencing on April 20, 2022.

Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced the plea, emphasizing the severity of the crimes and the ongoing commitment to pursuing those who exploit children. ‘This case is not just about files on a hard drive,’ Honig stated. ‘Each image represents a real child, violated and victimized. We will not look away.’

The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Jason J. Molina. Agents traced digital footprints, executed search warrants, and recovered evidence from Tiedeman’s electronic devices, building a case that left no room for denial.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah A. Sulkowski of the Violent Crime Unit and Francesca Liquori, Chief of the Narcotics/Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force Unit, are prosecuting the case. As the federal machinery gears up for sentencing, the spotlight remains on the hidden networks that traffic in child abuse — and the predators like Tiedeman who feed them.
