Waldorf Man Sentenced for Bank Robberies

A brazen bank robber who struck twice in less than a week has been sentenced to eight years in prison. Joshua Francisco Miranda, 29, of Waldorf, Maryland, was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang on "the day of this writing".

According to the investigation, Miranda robbed banks in Accokeek and Fort Washington, Maryland, on March 23 and March 29, 2016, respectively. In each robbery, Miranda entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding $5,000, threatening to detonate a bomb if the teller did not comply. Surveillance footage and witness testimony revealed that Miranda had a wire coming out of one of his shirt sleeves in each robbery.

The total amount stolen from the two banks was $7,800. At the time of these robberies, Miranda was on parole and probation for three previous state robbery convictions.

U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein praised the FBI and Prince George’s County Police Department for their work in the investigation. Rosenstein thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas M. Sullivan, who prosecuted the case.

Miranda was ordered to pay restitution of $7,800. The case was a result of a joint investigation by the FBI and the Prince George’s County Police Department. This is a stark reminder of the consequences of bank robbery, a crime that puts innocent lives at risk.

The sentence is a reflection of the severity of the crime. Miranda’s actions were not only brazen but also put the lives of bank employees and customers at risk. The community can rest assured that such crimes will be taken seriously and those responsible will face justice.

The FBI, Prince George’s County Police Department, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland worked tirelessly to bring Miranda to justice. Their dedication and perseverance paid off, resulting in a just sentence for this prolific bank robber.
