Watervliet Man Indicted in Child Porn Case

ALBANY, NY – Nicholas Sherlock, a 33-year-old resident of Watervliet, New York, is facing serious federal charges after being indicted for receiving child pornography. The indictment, handed down Tuesday, alleges a disturbing pattern of online depravity that authorities are determined to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

According to the indictment, between August 2024 and May 2025, Sherlock allegedly received numerous graphic image and video files depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. These files were transmitted via a social media application over the internet, bringing the horrors of child sexual abuse directly into his home. Sherlock was ordered detained following the indictment.

“As alleged, Sherlock received child sexual abuse material over the internet,” stated Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III. “This is unfortunately a type of crime that is far too common. Every day we work hard to rid our communities of people who have a sexual interest in children. All such people belong in prison.” The sentiment reflects the grim reality faced by investigators battling the ever-present threat of online exploitation.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Craig L. If convicted, Sherlock faces a maximum term of 20 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of 5 years. He could also be fined up to $250,000 and sentenced to a term of supervised release ranging from 5 years to life. Crucially, upon release, Sherlock would be required to register as a sex offender, a permanent mark of his alleged crimes.
