Wayne D. Brown, 48, of Aurora, Indiana, is headed back to federal prison after being caught with child pornography less than three months after his release on parole for nearly identical crimes. Last week, U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt sentenced Brown to 135 months—over 11 years—in federal custody, slamming the door on a repeat offender who once again violated the most sacred trust: the safety of children.
Brown was on Indiana parole for prior convictions in Dearborn County from 2007—Possession of Child Pornography and Child Exploitation—when he was busted in December 2016. As a condition of his release, Brown agreed to no internet access, no out-of-state travel, no alcohol, and routine checks at his residence. He broke nearly every rule. On December 15, 2016, he was confronted by his parole officer for being out of state without permission. That same night, parole agents executed an unannounced visit to his Aurora home and seized an internet-capable cell phone and a laptop.
Forensic examination of the devices revealed massive quantities of child pornography, including images of infants, toddlers, and pre-pubescent children being sexually abused. The material was not just illegal—it was evidence of ongoing, real-world child abuse. Brown’s digital footprint proved he wasn’t reformed. He was reoffending. Federal prosecutors, led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristina M. Korobov, built a swift and unrelenting case that left no room for leniency.
“Child Pornography is child abuse,” declared U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler. “Individuals who continue to traffic in child abuse imagery will go to prison.” Minkler emphasized that Brown’s case was a direct result of vigilance by Indiana State Parole agents who acted immediately upon detecting violations. “This case is an example of the diligent efforts of Indiana State Parole Agents,” he said. “It was his quick search of the defendant’s residence that uncovered the defendant’s repeated crimes against children.”
The investigation was a joint effort by the FBI’s Indianapolis Division, Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office, Indiana State Police Cyber Crimes Unit, and Indiana State Parole. Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Alex Middleton of the FBI stressed the urgency of such cases: “The FBI investigates all child pornography cases with a sense of urgency due to the extreme vulnerability of the victims involved—our children.”
Brown will serve 135 months in federal prison followed by 10 additional years of supervised release. Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens called Brown a clear danger to society: “Mr. Brown’s repeated criminal acts demonstrate that he cannot be free in society.” The case, rooted in cooperation across local, state, and federal lines, stands as a grim reminder: predators who exploit children will be hunted down—and put away for years.
