Willie Griffin, Schuele Boys Gang Member, Sentenced in Drug Ring

Willie Griffin, 27, of Buffalo, NY, is headed to federal prison for his role in a citywide cocaine distribution ring tied to the notorious Schuele Boys Gang. Convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute cocaine, Griffin was sentenced to 24 months by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo in Buffalo federal court.

The charges stem from a criminal spree that ran from June 2013 to July 23, 2014, during which Griffin and fellow gang members flooded East Side neighborhoods with cocaine. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney George C. Burgasser, Griffin purchased bulk quantities of the drug and repackaged it into street-level doses for resale, fueling addiction and violence across the city.

The Schuele Boys Gang, rooted in the Schuele Street corridor of Buffalo’s East Side, has long been linked to drug trafficking, shootings, and turf wars. Federal prosecutors say the crew distributed cocaine, crack cocaine, and marijuana while maintaining a violent grip on their territory through intimidation and retaliation.

Griffin is the latest domino to fall in a sweeping crackdown that has already taken down 18 of the 28 individuals indicted in the case. The investigation, led by the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force under Special Agent-in-Charge Adam S. Cohen, relied on wiretaps, informants, and surveillance to dismantle the network.

Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. reiterated the government’s commitment to rooting out organized crime elements embedded in local communities. ‘These so-called street organizations destroy neighborhoods, traffic in poison, and leave trauma in their wake,’ Kennedy said. ‘Today’s sentence sends a message: we’re coming after every link in the chain.’

No additional charges are pending against Griffin at this time, but federal authorities warn that investigations into the Schuele Boys’ remaining members and affiliates remain active. The case continues to unfold as law enforcement presses deeper into the gang’s underground operations.
