GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A Mission, South Dakota man, Logan James Fast Horse, 21, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Assault of an Intimate Partner by Strangulation and Suffocation, Assault With a Dangerous Weapon, and Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer.
United States Attorney Ron Parsons made the announcement, detailing the charges against Fast Horse. The incident in question occurred on April 1, 2019, when Fast Horse is alleged to have assaulted his intimate partner by strangling and suffocating her, followed by kicking her with intent to harm.
Pursuing further, Parsons stated that on April 5, 2019, Fast Horse forcibly assaulted a law enforcement officer employed by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, using a dangerous weapon in the process.
Fast Horse was indicted on May 14, 2019, and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on May 29, 2019, entering a not guilty plea. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, with potential restitution orders.
The investigation into the case has been led by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Elmore handling the prosecution. Fast Horse was released on bond pending trial, with no trial date set as yet.
