A seemingly innocuous massage parlor in Redlands masked a brutal operation exploiting teenage girls, federal prosecutors revealed this week. Ji Ryang Chae, Jasmine Dakota Beverly, and Earnest Akindele Teamer now face federal charges after a months-long investigation uncovered a scheme that turned vulnerable minors into victims of sexual abuse and financial exploitation.
Authorities allege the trafficking ring operated within Ace Care Massage Parlor, preying on girls as young as 14. Beverly and Teamer are accused of actively recruiting these minors, luring them with false promises or exploiting existing vulnerabilities. The feds say Beverly, dubbed “Bbybegirl” in online communications, provided transportation, essentially delivering the girls into a situation of forced servitude. Teamer, known on the streets as “Scooby” and “$koobystacks,” allegedly acted as a direct controller, demanding a cut of the profits earned by the exploited teens.
The indictment details a disturbing financial arrangement. Chae, the manager, allegedly required the girls to pay “rent” – a predatory practice where the victims were forced to hand over a significant portion of their earnings simply for the use of basic supplies and a place to work. Investigators claim Chae pocketed approximately $2,000 a month from one victim alone. Teamer’s control was even more direct, allegedly demanding all or a substantial portion of another victim’s earnings, functioning as a classic “pimp.” The operation ran from March 2022 to April 2022, a relatively short timeframe that speaks to the swift action of investigators.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Redlands Police Department worked in tandem to dismantle the operation. The investigation began with a tip-off, sources say, regarding unusual activity at Ace Care. Agents and officers conducted surveillance, interviewed potential witnesses, and ultimately secured evidence leading to the arrests. The case highlights the growing trend of sex trafficking occurring in seemingly legitimate businesses – a tactic traffickers use to blend in and avoid detection. This is not simply a Redlands problem; similar operations are surfacing nationwide, often hidden in plain sight.
The defendants face serious penalties if convicted. Conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and sex trafficking of a minor each carry a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison. Crucially, Chae and Beverly face a mandatory minimum of 10 years behind bars, while Teamer is looking at a minimum of 15 years. These mandatory minimums reflect the severity of the crimes and the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tritia L. Yuen is leading the prosecution, determined to hold these individuals accountable for their actions.
Earnest Teamer remains in federal custody without bond, a sign of the seriousness with which the feds are treating his alleged role. Beverly was released on $15,000 bond while awaiting her arraignment. Chae, apprehended in Colorado Springs, is expected to be extradited to California for trial. The victims, meanwhile, are receiving support and resources from local organizations specializing in trafficking survivor care. This case serves as a grim reminder of the pervasive nature of human trafficking and the need for continued vigilance and proactive law enforcement efforts.
Beyond this case, the Central District of California is currently prosecuting a range of serious crimes, including child exploitation, threats against military personnel, and armed robbery. This demonstrates the breadth of criminal activity federal prosecutors are tackling in the region. Anyone with information regarding potential trafficking cases is urged to contact HSI or their local law enforcement agency. The fight against human trafficking requires a collective effort, and silence only empowers the predators.
