Gunfire in broad daylight. Children wounded. Bodies left in the street. That’s the brutal legacy of the 6 Mile Chedda Grove street gang, now facing a sweeping federal crackdown. Nine more alleged members have been indicted in a superseding racketeering case tied to multiple shootings, including two fatal attacks in 2015, federal prosecutors announced today.
The new charges stem from the December 1, 2015, ambush at Troester Market on Detroit’s east side—a mid-afternoon execution that left two dead and multiple children seriously injured. Originally targeting Edwin Mills and Carlo Wilson, the case has exploded with the unsealing of a superseding indictment that adds nine defendants, including Mario Leico Jackson, a/k/a “Ugg,” 23, of Detroit, and Devontae Aaron Russell, a/k/a “Tae,” 23, of Knoxville, Tennessee. All face racketeering conspiracy charges.
The indictment paints 6 Mile Chedda Grove as a violent criminal enterprise operating within a defined turf bordered by East McNichols Road, Kelly Road, Houston-Whittier Street, and Chalmers Street. Federal prosecutors allege the gang used murder, assault, and drug trafficking to control territory, silence rivals, and intimidate witnesses. Two additional murders—February 7, 2015, and August 20, 2015—were carried out in daylight, underscoring the brazen nature of their operations.
Four suspects were arrested in the last 48 hours: Mario Leico Jackson, a/k/a “Ugg,” 23; Phillip Glen-Earl Peaks, a/k/a “Peezy,” 28; Michael Richardson, a/k/a “Mikey Made,” 28, who also faces charges for felon in possession of a firearm, heroin possession with intent to distribute, and firearm use in a drug crime; and Devontae Aaron Russell, a/k/a “Tae,” 23. The others, including Edwin Lamont Mills, a/k/a “Ed Boy,” 26, and Carlo Dajuan Wilson, a/k/a “Los,” 23, are already in custody on prior charges.
The operation, led by the FBI’s Violent Gang Task Force and the Detroit Police Gang Intelligence Unit under the Detroit One initiative, combines federal, state, and local law enforcement resources. The task force includes the Michigan Department of Corrections and the U.S. Border Patrol, highlighting the cross-jurisdictional reach of the gang’s criminal activity and the unified response it has triggered.
Among those already locked up are Donell Christopher Thompson, a/k/a “Dnell,” 26; Lomnil Bookies Jackson, a/k/a “Lomo,” 23; Patrick Jeffrey Johnson, a/k/a “Cane,” 22; and Corey Alexander Mills, 22—all of Detroit. Each faces racketeering conspiracy and, in some cases, murder in aid of racketeering and firearm charges carrying mandatory minimum sentences. The takedown marks one of the most significant blows yet to organized street violence in Detroit’s east side.
