9 Given 2nd Chance in Obama Pardon Wave
President Barack Obama has granted pardons to nine individuals, giving them a second chance at life after serving time for various crimes.
James Bernard Banks of Liberty, Utah, was pardoned for Illegal Possession of Government Property, a crime he committed in 1972. Banks was sentenced to two years of probation on October 31, 1972, in the District of Utah.
Russell James Dixon of Clayton, Georgia, was also granted a pardon for Felony Liquor Law Violation, a crime he committed in 1960. Dixon was sentenced to two years of probation on June 23, 1960, in the Northern District of Georgia.
Laurens Dorsey of Syracuse, New York, was pardoned for Conspiracy to Defraud the United States, a crime he committed in 1998. Dorsey was sentenced to five years of probation and $71,000 restitution on August 31, 1998, in the District of New Jersey.
Ronald Lee Foster of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, was granted a pardon for Mutilation of Coins, a crime he committed in 1963. Foster was sentenced to one year of probation and a $20 fine on October 4, 1963, in the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Timothy James Gallagher of Navasota, Texas, was pardoned for Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, a crime he committed in 1982. Gallagher was sentenced to three years of probation on October 18, 1982, in the District of Arizona.
Roxane Kay Hettinger of Powder Springs, Georgia, was granted a pardon for Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine, a crime she committed in 1986. Hettinger was sentenced to 30 days in jail followed by three years of probation on March 31, 1986, in the Northern District of Iowa.
Edgar Leopold Kranz Jr. of Minot, North Dakota, was pardoned for Wrongful Use of Cocaine, Adultery, and Writing Three Insufficient Fund Checks, a crime he committed in 1994. Kranz was sentenced to a bad conduct discharge (suspended), 24 months of confinement, and reduction to pay grade E-1 on September 14, 1994, as approved November 4, 1994, in a general court-martial convened at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.
Floretta Leavy of Rockford, Illinois, was granted a pardon for Distribution of Cocaine, Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, a crime she committed in 1984. Leavy was sentenced to one year and one day in prison and three years of special parole on October 19, 1984, in the District of Kansas.
Scoey Lathaniel Morris of Crosby, Texas, was pardoned for Passing Counterfeit Obligations or Securities, a crime he committed in 1999. Morris was sentenced to three years of probation and $1,200 restitution on May 21, 1999, in the Western District of Texas.
