Sex Trafficking Duo Sentenced in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, SD – In a shocking case of human exploitation, two Minneapolis residents have been brought to justice for their roles in a sex trafficking operation in Sioux Falls.

David Nance, 31, and Ashley Crayton, 26, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier for their crimes. Nance was sentenced to 37 months in custody, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and Crayton received a sentence of time served and 2 years of supervised release.

The investigation began in September 2014, when Sioux Falls police responded to a call from the Red Roof Inn regarding a complaint of possible prostitution activity at the hotel. Further investigation revealed that Nance and Crayton were working together to promote prostitution.

Crayton posted prostitution advertisements on Backpage.com, while Nance provided the transportation, paid for the hotel room, and took all of the money from the prostitution victim in this case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuted the case, with the help of the Sioux Falls Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations.

Nance was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of sex trafficking and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
