Rosebud Sex Offender Fails to Register

A Rosebud man has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in custody for his role in failing to register as a sex offender.

Kameron Jackson, 22, was handed down the sentence by U.S. Judge Roberto A. Lange on March 23, 2015, after pleading guilty to the charges on January 21, 2015.

According to court documents, between June 15, 2014, and August 7, 2014, Jackson failed to properly register as a sex offender in Todd County, South Dakota, and elsewhere. Jackson, a convicted sex offender under Federal Law, is required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

The U.S. Marshals Service investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher prosecuted the case. Jackson was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.

As part of his sentence, Jackson will also serve 5 years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, as well as $60 restitution.

The case is a reminder of the importance of sex offender registration and the consequences of failing to comply with the law.
