Bullhead Man Charged With Failure To Register As A Sex Offender
A 31-year-old man from Bullhead, South Dakota, has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender, according to federal authorities.
Miles Yellow Earrings, 31, was indicted on October 15, 2014, for allegedly failing to register and update his registration between May 10, 2014, and June 18, 2014.
Yellow Earrings, who is required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes on October 17, 2014, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment.
If convicted, Yellow Earrings faces up to 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, as well as a mandatory minimum period of at least 5 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The investigation into Yellow Earrings’ case is being conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley handling the prosecution.
Yellow Earrings was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, which has been set for December 16, 2014. The charge against him is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The case is a stark reminder of the importance of sex offender registration and the consequences of failing to comply with the regulations.
