An Oregon man has pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender in the US Virgin Islands.
Joe Dale Loomis, 57, of Oregon, pleaded guilty to one count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in District Court on St. Croix, USVI.
The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe.
Loomis was convicted of Sodomy in the First Degree, a sex offense involving a minor in Oregon in 1991.
According to court documents, Loomis traveled from Oregon to St. Croix on or about October 22, 2013, and knowingly failed to register as a sex offender on the island until August 19, 2014.
Loomis faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
No sentencing date has been set.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rami S. Badawy and Everard E. Potter.
