GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a major blow to the opioid epidemic, federal authorities have taken down a massive fentanyl ring in Philadelphia, with one key player facing up to 20 years behind bars.
TALIYM SMITH-GRAVES, 35, of Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with operating a $10 million fentanyl operation, according to court documents.
Prosecutors allege that SMITH-GRAVES, who was born in Philadelphia, used his connections to source large quantities of fentanyl from Mexico and distribute it across the city.
SMITH-GRAVES, a former resident of 1234 N 5th St, Philadelphia, PA 19123, is facing one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
He is being held without bail at the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center.
SMITH-GRAVES’ arrest marks a significant victory for local law enforcement, who have been battling the opioid epidemic for years.
U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania announced the charges against SMITH-GRAVES, who is being represented by defense attorney CATHERINE C. HENRY.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney MEGHAN A. FARLEY.
