Jose Alberto Sandoval-Hernandez and Efrain Munguia-Alverez, two Mexican nationals, were sentenced for unlawful reentry into the United States after being found in the country without permission multiple times. The sentences were handed down in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after the men were arrested in separate incidents in August and October 2025. Sandoval-Hernandez was arrested for driving under the influence, while Munguia-Alverez was stopped for a traffic violation.

Sandoval-Hernandez, 63, had been previously removed from the United States in 2015, 2019, and 2022. He pleaded guilty to state court charges and was sentenced to 31 days in jail. Munguia-Alverez, 39, had been removed twice in 2008, once in 2011, twice in 2016, and once in 2019. He was prosecuted by the US Attorney’s office in 2019 for unlawful reentry and was sentenced to time served.

US District Judge Raul M. Arias-Marxuach sentenced Sandoval-Hernandez to eight months imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release. Munguia-Alverez was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. Both men will remain in custody pending transfer to the US Bureau of Prisons and are expected to face removal proceedings upon release.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant US Attorney Ammon prosecuted the case.
