Brazilian Citizen Admits Smuggling Undocumented Aliens

A 46-year-old Brazilian citizen has pleaded guilty to transporting two undocumented aliens in New York. Rosalvo Caetano admitted to picking up the two migrants in Fort Covington, New York, after they had secretly crossed the border from Canada, and driving them to Malone, New York, where he was subsequently arrested by Border Patrol Agents.

Caetano, who is also an undocumented alien, was living in Worcester, Massachusetts, at the time of the arrest. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced by Senior United States District Judge Gary L. Sharpe on October 16, 2018.

The two migrants arrested with Caetano, Gabriel Felipe Dias Prado, 19, and Ilcione Bazoni, also known as Carlos Cousa, 62, both citizens of Brazil, were prosecuted for the misdemeanor offense of entry without inspection. Prado was sentenced to 20 days in jail, while Cousa was sentenced to 45 days in jail.

U.S. Attorney Grant C. Jaquith and Robert N. Garcia, Acting Chief Patrol Agent, United States Border Patrol, Swanton Sector, made the announcement. The case was investigated by Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward P. Grogan.

The transportation of undocumented aliens is a serious offense that puts a strain on local law enforcement and poses a significant risk to public safety. Caetano’s guilty plea is a step towards bringing justice to the victims and ensuring that those responsible for these crimes are held accountable.

Rosalvo Caetano’s sentencing is scheduled for October 16, 2018. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies to combat human trafficking and protect the community from those who seek to exploit and harm innocent people.

The case highlights the importance of cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in combating human trafficking and protecting the community. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to bring these individuals to justice and to ensure that they face the full force of the law.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Grant C. Jaquith said, ‘Human trafficking is a serious offense that affects communities across the country. We will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to identify and prosecute those responsible for these crimes.’
