New York – An unsettling incident occurred at Antioch Baptist Church in Bedford-Stuyvesant when an intruder interrupted church services, prompting swift response and a call for enhanced security measures.

Attorney General Letitia James condemned the intrusion, emphasizing the necessity of safeguarding houses of worship across the state. “This incident underscores the need for security at all houses of worship in our communities,” she said. “As Attorney General, it is my duty to protect the safety of all New Yorkers, and I will continue working with my partners in government to keep our most sacred spaces safe.”

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez echoed these sentiments, calling for better security funding for low-income communities where houses of worship often lack the resources to provide adequate safety.

Assemblymember Latrice Walker, who represents the area, described the incident as a “disturbing” event that underscores the critical need for security at all houses of worship. She cited an intruder who infiltrated the sanctuary and filled the church with fear during an MLK Day celebration.

Assemblymember Stefani L. Zinerman, whose district includes the church, highlighted the urgent need to strengthen security measures following this incident. “This work must now be accelerated and expanded,” she said, emphasizing the importance of proactive strategies for safety.

The intruder was eventually removed from the premises without harm to anyone inside. The community and officials alike are demanding stronger protections for houses of worship, ensuring they remain safe spaces for worship and fellowship.
