In a stunning turn of events, the Omaha Daily Bee has uncovered a tangled web of deceit at the heart of the city’s military establishment. Count Ferdinand Walsin Esterhazy, a man once hailed as a hero, has been revealed to have written a damning letter, known as the ‘bordereau,’ under the orders of Colonel Georges-Albert Dieudonné Sandherr, then chief of the secret Intelligence bureau. Esterhazy allegedly confessed to the act, claiming he was tasked with catching the traitor at the headquarters of the general staff, later identifying Captain Alfred Dreyfus as the target.
