New York Attorney General Letitia James dropped the hammer on Central New York’s ghost gun syndicate, announcing convictions and lengthy sentences for Brian Lawson, alias ‘P’Nut,’ and his Baker brothers.
The trio were at the heart of an illegal firearms ring, which AG James’ Organized Crime Task Force (OCTF) dismantled. The operation resulted in the seizure of 34 firearms, including 21 ghost guns or components, along with high-capacity magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
Lawson and the Bakers were indicted on 35 charges for their roles in selling illegal firearms. They faced justice when they pleaded guilty to Felony Possession of Firearms, receiving years-long prison terms. Charles Baker was sentenced to six years behind bars, while Jeremy Baker got a similar fate. Lawson was sentenced to three and a half years.
“Gun traffickers who flood our communities with illegal untraceable ghost guns put all New Yorkers in danger,” AG James stated, emphasizing the importance of the investigation in taking dangerous weapons off the streets.
The joint OCTF and New York State Police probe revealed that the Bakers and Lawson had been distributing firearms in Onondaga County. Polymer80 9mm pistols without serial numbers and unregistered handguns were among the recovered items. The sentences handed down serve as a stark reminder of the consequences for those who traffic deadly firearms.
New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James praised the collaborative effort, noting that the operation was a testament to the effectiveness of combined law enforcement efforts in tackling illegal weapon trafficking and protecting public safety.
