Attorney Gen. Opens Probe into Saratoga Cop Shooting

New York – The State’s Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has swung into action, opening a probe into the tragic death of Brandon Moore. Moore met his fate on April 10, after a confrontation with New York State Police (NYSP) and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) personnel in Malta, Saratoga County.

That morning, the law enforcement units were dispatched to a reported domestic dispute at an apartment complex. Upon their arrival, they encountered a bleeding woman exiting the scene. Moore, armed with what appeared to be a handgun, exited the apartment around 10:30 a.m. and allegedly pointed it towards officers. A shootout ensued, with NYSP troopers and SCSO officers discharging their weapons, ultimately striking Moore. The injured man was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. At the scene, police recovered a pellet gun.

Pursuant to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI reviews all incidents involving potential police officer or peace officer deaths by act or omission. The law applies regardless of whether the officer was on-duty or off-duty and whether the deceased was armed or unarmed, or in custody. If OSI’s assessment suggests an officer may have caused a death, they proceed with a thorough investigation.

These are preliminary facts subject to change as the OSI delves into this grave matter.

The grim tale of Moore’s demise has sparked calls for accountability and transparency from local residents and civil rights advocates. As the OSI’s probe unfolds, the public awaits answers on how such a tragedy could have transpired.
