New York – The grimy details of political misconduct have once again come to light as Letitia James, the state’s Attorney General, announced the conviction of Jason McGuire, 49, for criminally misusing campaign funds. McGuire, a prominent figure in the Livingston County Conservative Party and Vice Chairman of the New York State Conservative Party’s Executive Committee, was caught with his hands deep into the till, siphoning off over $16,000 meant for the party’s cause to line his own pockets.
The AG’s investigation revealed a brazen act of financial chicanery. McGuire, with the authority to wield the party’s funds, funneled $16,706.26 from the LCCP account into his personal account over two years, using these funds for clothes, dining at restaurants, and indulging in beauty treatments. His deceit was further compounded by his deliberate failure to disclose these transactions on campaign finance reports as required by New York law.
Today, in a Livingston County Supreme Court hearing, McGuire pleaded guilty to two counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the Second Degree, class A misdemeanors. Attorney General James emphasized the importance of trust in political contributions, stating that donors must have faith their money will be used as intended. ‘Our investigation has shown Jason McGuire’s betrayal of this trust,’ she said.
McGuire’s crime was not just financial; it was a violation of the very principles upon which political parties are built. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) expressed gratitude to the New York State Police for their referral and assistance in the investigation, as well as to the New York State Board of Elections for their support.
The investigation was led by Detectives David Buske and Christopher DiPasquale under the direction of Supervising Detective Peter Fitzgerald. The audit function was handled by Auditor Daniel Dudley under Deputy Chief Auditor Sandy Bizzarro. Assistant Attorney General Susan H. Sadinsky is handling the prosecution, supervised by Public Integrity Bureau Chief Gerard Murphy and Deputy Chief Kiran Herr.
