A Waterloo, Iowa man has pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing child pornography. Charles Adkins, age 46, entered his guilty plea on March 4, 2013, in federal court in Cedar Rapids.
Adkins was convicted of one count of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. At the plea hearing, he admitted to using the Internet to distribute child pornography between December 2011 and February 2012. Additionally, he admitted to possessing child pornography on a laptop computer between September 2011 and March 2012.
The guilty plea is a result of a thorough investigation conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, the Waterloo Police Department, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Pensacola, Florida, Police Department.
Sentencing for Adkins will be determined by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade after a presentence report is prepared. Adkins faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment, $500,000 in fines, a $200 special assessment, and supervised release for 5 years to life following his imprisonment.

Adkins was taken into custody by the United States Marshal after the guilty plea and will remain in custody pending sentencing.
