In a chilling turn of events in the criminal underworld of Dubuque, Iowa, Tyrone Clifton, a 27-year-old man with a laundry list of felony convictions, has now pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
The incident dates back to November 22, 2013, when Clifton was involved in a bar fight where he discharged a firearm, leaving someone wounded. Clifton’s flight from the scene ended with his capture that same day, found in a car with a loaded 9mm pistol.
Clifton’s rap sheet is long and storied, having been convicted previously of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substance, escape, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon—all serious offenses committed in Cook County, Illinois.
Now facing the prospect of a decade behind bars, Clifton will await sentencing before Chief Judge Linda R. Reade, who will also determine his fate after reviewing a presentence report. Until then, the defendant remains in the custody of the United States Marshal.
The case has been prosecuted with vigor by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Tvedt and investigated by the Dubuque Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
