Portland, Maine – Richard Magee, a 58-year-old Gorham man, faced the federal bench today as United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced his sentence: 70 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release for distributing cocaine and possessing firearms after a felony conviction.
Magee’s criminal activities came to light when agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) discovered he was importing cocaine from out of state and selling it within Maine. The DEA then executed a search warrant at Magee’s residence, where they uncovered a clandestine cocaine processing station in his basement. Agents also seized five firearms from Magee’s bedroom.
This operation is the latest success of a joint investigation involving the DEA, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Portland Police Department, and the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF). The OCDETF aims to dismantle major drug trafficking and weapons organizations that fuel illegal drug supply chains.
Magee pleaded guilty to these offenses on October 29, 2014. The case serves as a stark reminder of the impact that drug traffickers have on communities across Maine.
