Shocking revelations have emerged from Assumption Parish, Louisiana, where Tommy Thompson, 29, of Napoleonville, and Stacey Matthews, 43, of Thibodaux, have been indicted on a staggering array of federal drug charges. The U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite announced the charges against the duo, who were implicated in a multi-faceted conspiracy to sell cocaine hydrochloride.
The Indictment filed on February 12, 2015, unsealed recently, accuses Thompson and Matthews of conspiring to distribute cocaine hydrochloride, with Thompson also facing additional charges for distributing crack cocaine, distributing cocaine hydrochloride and marijuana, as well as multiple counts of possessing a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking activities. He is also charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, violating the Federal Gun Control Act.
For their roles in the conspiracy, Thompson and Matthews face severe penalties: up to 20 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of $1,000,000 for cocaine hydrochloride conspiracy; up to 20 years for crack cocaine conspiracy; up to 40 years for distribution of crack cocaine; up to 20 years for distribution of powder cocaine; and up to 20 years for distribution of marijuana. Thompson also faces life imprisonment for possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, up to 10 years for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and up to 10 years for distributing cocaine hydrochloride.
Assistant United States Attorney Rick Veters is leading the prosecution of this case. U.S. Attorney Polite emphasized that the charges are merely accusations, and that the guilt of Thompson and Matthews must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court. He also commended the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Louisiana State Police, and the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office for their work in investigating these serious crimes.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in our communities and the efforts of law enforcement to dismantle organized crime operations. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
