GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Christopher David Doggett, a 35-year-old resident of Arlington, Washington, has pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography in U.S. District Court in Seattle. The plea agreement, which was announced by U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan, outlines that Doggett faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and up to 40 years when he is sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Marsha J. Pechman on August 15, 2014.
DOGGETT’s 2003 conviction for possession and distribution of child pornography has set the stage for this harsh sentence. During a search of his home in January 2010, Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies uncovered over 600 images of child pornography that Doggett had distributed via computer. The investigation turned grim when they discovered smartphone evidence of Doggett molesting a young child.
DOGGETT was already convicted in Snohomish County Superior Court for dealing child pornography and received a sentence of 90 months in prison in February 2011. His state and federal sentences may run concurrently, to be determined by Judge Pechman.
The terms of the plea agreement require Doggett to register as a sex offender and undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse online.
Assistant United States Attorney Jerrod Patterson prosecuted this case, which was investigated by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
