BERNARD AMIN MUSTAFA III, 37, a Seattle resident, faced a severe legal fate today as he was sentenced to nine years in prison for his role as a high-powered narcotic dealer. The U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan announced the sentence after Mustafa’s arrest on April 19, 2012.
Agents with a search warrant uncovered a treasure trove of illegal substances at Mustafa’s home: fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, BZP, oxycodone, and ecstasy. Alongside these drugs were over $300,000 in cash and three firearms, including a high-powered rifle aimed out the front window.
The court heard that Mustafa was not new to the streets of Seattle. His investigation began with the arrest of a fentanyl dealer, leading authorities to his doorstep. The DEA reported that the seized fentanyl could have been sold on the street for $200,000, highlighting its dangerous potency and potential for overdose.
Mustafa’s criminal activity did not end there. He was also found in possession of three firearms: a Remington .308 caliber rifle, an FNAR 7.62 mm rifle in a tripod, and a Springfield Armory .40 caliber pistol, all of which were used to protect his illegal wares.
Tragically, Mustafa’s dangerous lifestyle extended beyond the streets. His girlfriend died from a drug overdose while he was incarcerated, with fentanyl present in her system. The case remains under investigation by the Seattle Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Roger Rogoff prosecuted the case, advocating for an 11-year sentence in light of Mustafa’s extensive criminal history and the risk he posed to those around him. The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Seattle Police Department conducted the investigation, ensuring justice was served in this gritty crime story.
