The Eastern District of Oklahoma’s United States Attorney’s Office has announced that MICHAEL GLENN VALLES, 47, from Calera, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to making a False Statement, violating Title 18, Section 1014. This offense carries a maximum penalty of up to 30 years imprisonment and/or a fine of $1,000,000.
The charge stems from an investigation by the United States Department of Agriculture, which led to Valles’s indictment in November 2014. The court documents指控 that on or about January 22, 2010, within the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Valles knowingly made a false statement to influence the action of the USDA Farm Service Agency. He claimed a value of $80,739.19 for cattle he had purchased in August and September 2009, when he had actually bought only $27,178.91 worth of cattle.
The Honorable Kimberly E. West, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee, accepted Valles’s guilty plea and has ordered the completion of a presentence report. Assistant United States Attorney Melody Nelson represented the United States during the proceedings.
Valles’s offense is a clear example of white-collar crime, where false financial reporting can have significant consequences for both individuals and the government. The severity of the charge reflects the potential impact on federal programs that rely on accurate information for their operations.
This case serves as a reminder to all that honesty in financial reporting is not just a legal requirement but also a moral imperative. Valles’s conviction could lead to significant time behind bars and a substantial financial penalty, sending a strong message to others about the consequences of fraudulent activity.
