GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE — In a hard-fought battle against the illicit drug trade, SAMMY WAYNE DAVIS, 46, of Hugo, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 180 months imprisonment for Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. The sentence, handed down by District Judge Ronald A. White in Muskogee, follows Davis’s guilty plea in March 2014.
The case against Davis stemmed from an investigation led by the Hugo Police Department, Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office, and District 17 District Attorney’s Drug Task Force. According to the Indictment, on or about June 5, 2011, Davis was found to possess with intent to distribute at least 50 grams of methamphetamine, a Schedule II Controlled Substance.
Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris represented the United States in court, where Davis now faces a lengthy sentence that is not subject to parole. The defendant remains in the custody of the United States Marshal Service as he awaits transportation to federal prison.
This sentencing marks another victory for law enforcement agencies in their ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Oklahoma. It serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who engage in the distribution of dangerous drugs like methamphetamine.
The Hugo Police Department, Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office, and District 17 Drug Task Force are to be commended for their diligent work on this case, which has led to the successful conviction and punishment of a drug trafficker.
