Conspiracy to Mail Oxycodone: Three Men Face Charges

GRIMY NEWS ALERT: Three Ohio men are facing federal charges for their alleged roles in a massive conspiracy to distribute Oxycodone across state lines. Myron D. Black, 44, from Mansfield, Chauncey L. Ransom, 49, of Inglewood, and Victor A. Hageman, 45, from Euclid are all accused of participating in the illicit scheme.

According to Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, the trio conspired to mail nearly 3,000 Oxycodone pills from California to various addresses in Ohio. Ransom is alleged to have obtained and mailed the drugs, using deceptive packaging such as video movie disc covers to conceal the illegal substance.

The indictments highlight the ongoing struggle against prescription pill abuse in Ohio, with Dettelbach emphasizing the commitment to stopping the flow of illegal drugs through any means necessary. The investigation was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Akron Police Department.

Ransom is said to have mailed packages containing between 200 and 600 pills each to addresses in Lakewood, Seven Hills, Akron, and Mansfield between August 2012 and April 2013. In exchange for receiving these shipments, Black and Hageman reportedly paid Ransom $200 per package.

The penalties for such a crime are severe, with sentencing determined by the court after considering various factors unique to each case. Assistant United States Attorney Christian H. Stickan is handling the prosecution of this case.

It’s important to note that an indictment is merely a charge and does not prove guilt. The defendants, including Black, Ransom, and Hageman, are entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
