Nurse Pleads Guilty in Ohio’s Murder-for-Hire Plot

Andrew Martin, a 23-year-old registered nurse from Bristolville, Ohio, has pleaded guilty to a chilling murder-for-hire plot. According to Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Martin admitted to using an interstate commerce facility in the commission of this heinous act.

Martin’s plan was to take control of a Lakewood residence on Clifton Boulevard by killing its owner, G.W., who was a patient at the hospital where he worked. He conspired with D.S., a property repairman, to orchestrate this scheme, utilizing G.W.’s medical records to perpetuate fraud and secure ownership before G.W.’s death.

The plot thickened when Martin accessed G.W.’s medical records to provide fraudulent information to D.S., who falsely claimed a personal relationship with the homeowner. This deceit led to the transfer of the property’s ownership. On November 21, 2011, they filed a fraudulent quitclaim deed in Cuyahoga County Recorder’s office.

However, law enforcement was on high alert and thwarted Martin’s scheme. The nurse even solicited a patient at his hospital to murder G.W.’s sister, J.C., for $10,000, planning to make it appear as a robbery. In February 2012, he helped prepare D.S. for a deposition by providing him with G.W.’s personal information.

Martin faces sentencing on July 18 before U.S. District Judge Christoper Boyko. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Henry F. DeBaggis and Kelly L. Galvin, following an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with assistance from the Maple Heights Police Department and Lakewood Police Department.
