New Middletown, Ohio – Joey Thomas Holt, a 56-year-old resident of New Middletown, Ohio, is facing a litany of child pornography charges, according to Steven M. Dettelbach, the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.
Holt stands accused of receiving, distributing, and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The indictment alleges that from December 8, 2013, to February 20, 2014, Holt knowingly exchanged numerous computer files containing such material through interstate and foreign commerce, using a computer as his medium.
On March 6, 2014, authorities claim Holt had two computers in his possession, both harboring child pornography. The gravity of the charges against Holt is underscored by the potential sentence, which will be decided by the court after considering various factors unique to his case.
Assistant United States Attorney Michael A. Sullivan is leading the prosecution of this case, which was investigated by the Youngstown Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. An indictment is a charge and not evidence of guilt; Holt is entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
For those unfamiliar with the federal sentencing guidelines, they dictate that sentences will not exceed the statutory maximum and are often less than this ceiling depending on factors such as the defendant’s prior record and role in the offense.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against child exploitation and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to protect our youth from predators like Holt.
