PITTSBURGH, PA – Illegal alien Josue Elias Calidonio-Castillo, 29, of Honduras, has been sentenced to time served for his illegal re-entry into the United States after being deported. The sentence was announced by United States Attorney David J. Hickton.
Calidonio-Castillo had previously been removed from the U.S. by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on September 1, 2006, but was found in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, on July 16, 2013.
The defendant pleaded guilty to Re-Entry into the United States after Deportation, a federal offense, and faced a sentence of up to two years in prison. However, U.S. District Judge Gustave Diamond imposed the time served sentence, reflecting Calidonio-Castillo’s earlier removal.
Assistant United States Attorney Paul E. Hull was responsible for the government’s prosecution of the case. Hickton praised ICE for their investigation that led to the successful prosecution of Calidonio-Castillo.
This sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who attempt to circumvent the legal immigration process. The community remains vigilant against illegal re-entry and its implications on national security and public safety.
