BOSTON – In a gritty courtroom battle, Gary S. Judge, 37, of Randolph, Massachusetts, has pleaded guilty to two counts of bank robbery in U.S. District Court. The defendant faces a sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison for the Braintree and Milton heists.
The July 28, 2014, brazen daylight抢劫 at the Century Bank in Braintree saw Judge enter with a shoe box and escape with $5,622. A week later, another shoe box, this time at Citizens Bank in Milton, yielded just $670 for the defendant, but included a red dye pack that would be his downfall.
“Judge’s wife owned the Chrysler SUV seen leaving the scene,” law enforcement sources revealed. It was a lead that finally cracked the case wide open. Judge was arrested on December 30, 2014, and confessed to both robberies.
According to federal statutes, the judge could face a fine of up to $250,000 and three years of supervised release if sentenced at the maximum. However, sentences for federal crimes are often less severe than the maximum penalties dictate.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth G. Shine of Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit, with significant assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement agencies including the Milton and Braintree Police Departments.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and FBI Special Agent in Charge Harold H. Shaw led the investigation into these violent crimes, ensuring justice for the victims of Judge’s bank heists.
