Cristea and Tolle Face Mining Fraud Sentence

ST. LOUIS, MO – Mining magnates Cristopher Cristea and David Corey Tolle have been sentenced for their involvement in a massive fraud scheme that promised investors lucrative returns from mining operations but instead siphoned funds into personal expenses.

Cristea was handed 46 months behind bars and ordered to pay $1,724,158 in restitution. Tolle received three years of probation and must repay $526,750. Both men faced charges including wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy.

The duo formed Cristol Enterprises, LLC and Charis Minerals, Inc., claiming they were engaged in mining valuable minerals across the U.S. and Africa. Investors were told their money would go towards property purchases and equipment. Instead, a bulk of the funds were used to repay earlier investors and fund personal expenditures.

In one instance, Cristea allocated funds to provide student loans for beauty academy students, while Tolle was caught using investor money to settle his own debts. Cristea also attempted to fraudulently secure a $1 million credit line by lying about his legal status and financial assets in 2014.

Both men have pleaded guilty to their charges and were sentenced by United States District Judge Carol E. Jackson. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Steven Muchnick handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Cristea and Tolle’s sentencing marks a significant victory in the fight against white-collar crime and financial fraud, sending a stern message to those who seek to exploit investors under false pretenses.
