Greenbelt, Maryland – Rodney Levon Davis, 47, from Upper Marlboro, has admitted to the violent robbery of a Hyattsville fast food restaurant. On December 14, 2016, Davis pleaded guilty to robbery and using, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during the crime.
The plea was made public by United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein, FBI Special Agent in Charge Gordon B. Johnson, Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank Stawinski, and State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks.
Davis, wearing a hooded jacket and an ‘Iron Man’ mask, entered the restaurant on December 24, 2014. He threatened employees with a revolver, demanding entry to the safe. Once inside, he directed several employees into the manager’s office while stealing money and setting fire to the room.
After escaping with stolen cash, Davis fired at least two shots as he fled. He was eventually caught after a high-speed chase, leading to the recovery of firearms and stolen proceeds. His motive for the crime? A recent termination from employment at the restaurant.
Davis has agreed that if the court accepts the plea agreement, he will face between 121 months and 14 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for March 30, 2017, at 2:30 p.m.
United States Attorney Rosenstein commended the efforts of the FBI, Prince George’s County Police Department, and the State’s Attorney’s Office in this case. Assistant United States Attorneys Thomas M. Sullivan and Menaka S. Kalaskar are handling the prosecution.
