New Haven’s Fonz Gets More Time for Supervised Release Violation

New Haven’s criminal underworld has yet another addition to its grim record as Alphonzo Dixon, also known by the moniker ‘Fonz,’ 29, faces a sentence of 12 months and one day for violating the terms of his supervised release. This sentence comes hot on the heels of his 2014 conviction for drug and firearm offenses.

Dixon’s descent into the criminal spotlight began with an investigation led by the FBI New Haven Safe Streets Task Force, in conjunction with the New Haven Police Department and Connecticut State Police. The inquiry centered around drug distribution and related violence linked to members and associates of the Grape Street Crips, a notorious gang operating in New Haven.

Pursuing his criminal ambitions, Dixon pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine. On April 7, 2014, he was sentenced to serve 46 months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release.

However, on September 17, 2016, Dixon’s past caught up with him as he, along with another individual, physically assaulted a man at a New Haven convenience store. For this incident, Judge Stefan R. Underhill ordered Dixon to serve an additional 22 months of supervised release upon his release from federal custody.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys H. Gordon Hall and Anthony E. Kaplan prosecuted the case that has now landed Dixon with yet another stretch in the clink. As New Haven continues to grapple with crime, Dixon’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences that follow when the terms of supervised release are breached.
