Pittsburgh Heroin Dealer Wormsley Gets 93 Months

PITTSBURGH – Eric Wormsley, 38, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is headed to federal prison for nearly eight years after a disturbing case of heroin trafficking and reckless endangerment. Wormsley received a 93-month sentence today, Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song announced, along with six years of supervised release to follow.

The sentence stems from a February 6, 2015 incident where probation officers discovered Wormsley’s criminal cache – over 50 grams of heroin with intent to distribute and a loaded, stolen .45 caliber pistol – stashed in the bedroom of his young children. The gun and drugs were found within mere feet of where the children slept, a callous disregard for their safety that clearly weighed heavily on the court.

This wasn’t Wormsley’s first rodeo. He was already on probation for a prior conviction of simple assault of a police officer. Federal and state court records reveal a two-decade pattern of heroin trafficking and firearms offenses, painting a clear picture of a repeat offender with no apparent respect for the law or the safety of the community. This latest conviction adds to a long list of crimes, demonstrating a persistent pattern of dangerous behavior.

Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller successfully prosecuted the case, bringing Wormsley to justice after a thorough investigation conducted by a multi-agency task force. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Allegheny County Probation Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration all played critical roles in building the case against Wormsley, gathering evidence and securing the conviction.

The investigation received crucial funding and coordination through the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF). This program is designed to dismantle major interstate and international drug trafficking organizations, and its support was essential in bringing Wormsley’s operation to light. The OCDETF program provides vital resources that enable federal and state agencies to collaborate effectively.

Wormsley’s sentencing sends a clear message: those who peddle poison and endanger the lives of others, especially children, will face the full force of federal law. While 93 months is a significant sentence, it remains to be seen if it will be enough to deter Wormsley from returning to his criminal ways upon his release. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on any further developments.
