GREEN BAY, WI – Lucycan Ly, 36, of Green Bay is headed to federal prison for 84 months after a raid on his home uncovered a sickening stockpile of methamphetamine, marijuana, and three loaded firearms. The sentence, handed down February 13, 2017, by Chief United States District Judge William C. Griesbach, reflects the severity of Ly’s crimes and the danger he posed to the community.
Ly previously pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(c)(1)(A). Federal prosecutors detailed how a search of Ly’s residence revealed substantial quantities of both methamphetamine and marijuana, alongside the illegally possessed weapons. As a convicted felon, Ly was already legally barred from owning or possessing any firearms.
The Brown County Drug Task Force and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) jointly investigated the case, uncovering a clear connection between Ly’s drug dealing and the presence of the loaded guns. This wasn’t just about drugs; it was about escalating the risk of violence in Northeast Wisconsin, a point Judge Griesbach drove home during sentencing.
“The debilitating effect that methamphetamine has on individuals and the great harm the drug causes in Northeast Wisconsin,” Judge Griesbach stated, highlighting the devastating impact of Ly’s activities. He further emphasized that the volume of methamphetamine discovered, coupled with the readily available firearms, made this a particularly dangerous and reckless criminal enterprise.
Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble successfully prosecuted the case, presenting evidence that painted a grim picture of Ly’s involvement in the drug trade and his blatant disregard for the law. The 84-month sentence sends a clear message: dealing drugs and possessing firearms while prohibited will be met with serious federal consequences.
This case underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and gun violence in Wisconsin. Authorities are committed to dismantling these operations and bringing those responsible to justice.
