Orlando, FL – A monstrous sentence of 40 years and two months has been meted out to Abdhullah Hamidullah, 43, following his conviction for sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion. Hamidullah has been branded a predator who ensnared young women in a web of exploitation and violence.
According to admissions during his guilty plea on June 17, 2016, the defendant lured A.W., a young woman, under false pretenses to Florida, where he subjected her to days of forced commercial sex acts. Hamidullah kept her isolated, robbed her of money and communication, and terrorized her with physical abuse and threats. He even branded her as part of his twisted control over her.
Hamidullah has agreed to pay restitution to six identified victims, a small reparation for the trauma they suffered at his hands. U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III emphasized that ‘this defendant used physical abuse and intimidation to force young women into prostitution.’ The sentence aims to end Hamidullah’s pattern of exploitation and restore justice to his victims.
Acting Assistant Attorney General Tom Wheeler echoed sentiments of justice: ‘This sentence sends a clear message that the United States will not tolerate modern-day slavery.’ Peter T. Edge of Homeland Security Investigations’ HSI stated, ‘HSI will continue to investigate and seek prosecution of these criminals, ensuring victims receive care they need.’
The Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation, 9th Judicial Circuit of Florida Director Ron Stucker explained the collective efforts in bringing justice: ‘The evidence in this case demonstrates the ruthlessness of sex traffickers and the urgency to rescue victims.’ Hamidullah’s enterprise dates back to 2005, with numerous women being coerced into commercial sex acts for his profit.
This case was a collaborative effort between Department of Homeland Security’s HSI and Orlando-based Metropolitan Bureau of Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Ilianys Rivera Miranda and Trial Attorney William Nolan prosecuted the case within the Civil Rights Division’s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit.
