ERIC DILLON OF GARY, INDIANA has entered a guilty plea for his heinous crimes. Dillon, 28, admitted to one count of Hobbs Act Robbery and causing death during a crime of violence before District Court Judge Philip P. Simon.
The act took place on January 20, 2016, when Dillon, armed with a handgun, robbed the 7-Eleven store at 6031 Hohman Avenue in Hammond. During the violent confrontation, he shot and killed Roger Unton, 60, of Blue Island, Illinois, the store clerk.
Acting United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson announced the plea, which was accepted by the court. Dillon’s sentencing is scheduled for August 15, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
This case has been meticulously investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Hammond Police Department with support from the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Thomas M. McGrath and Jennifer Chang are handling the prosecution.
