HARRISBURG – Heriberto Barrueta-Diaz, a 28-year-old Mexican national, has been charged with illegal re-entry into the United States, a crime that carries with it a maximum penalty of 2 years of imprisonment and a fine.
Barrueta-Diaz was previously convicted of illegal entry in Arizona and removed from the United States in 2010. His latest crime is a serious one, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania is taking it very seriously.
The investigation into Barrueta-Diaz’s activities was led by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who worked tirelessly to gather evidence and build a case against the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James T. Clancy has been assigned to prosecute the case against Barrueta-Diaz. Clancy is a seasoned lawyer with a reputation for getting results in high-profile cases.
Barrueta-Diaz is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in court. If convicted, he could face a sentence of up to 2 years in prison, followed by a term of supervised release and a fine.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania is committed to enforcing the laws of the United States and protecting its citizens. In this case, the office is sending a clear message to anyone who would attempt to re-enter the country illegally: you will be caught and you will be held accountable.
The case against Barrueta-Diaz is a reminder that immigration enforcement is a top priority for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The office will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute individuals who attempt to circumvent our laws and put our communities at risk.
